5 Tips to Improve your Sleep

People (including myself) are always looking for ways to improve. We’re trying to do more and hustle harder, thinking it will take us to the next level. Hard work is never a bad thing, but through all the craziness, we forget the importance of rest, sleeping, and letting our bodies recover. Prioritizing sleep can be challenging, but consistently getting enough sleep is crucial for physical and mental wellbeing. Kids need to be getting 8-10 hours of sleep, and we adults need to be getting 7-8 hours.

Tips to improve your sleep

1. Electronics aren’t for the bedroom

Try to stop the habit of lying in bed with your phone and watching TV in your room. The blue light from these electronics is very stimulating to the mind and decreases your ability to fall asleep. The easiest way to do this is to charge your phone somewhere away from your bed. It will stop you from scrolling, and when your alarm goes off in the morning, you’ll have to get out of bed to turn it off.

2. Create a simple 3-5 step bedtime routine

A routine before bed is great because it preps your mind to get ready for sleep. The key is to create a consistent routine you do every night because the more you do it, the more powerful it becomes. Here are some ideas for a good bedtime routine:

  • Stretch
  • Hot Bath
  • Gratitude journal
  • Pray
  • Read a book
  • Meditate

3. Tart Cherry Juice

Drink 2-4 ounces of 100% tart cherry juice before bed. It has natural melatonin in it that promotes sleep. And it also helps reduce inflammation.
